Heirloom Big Max Pumpkin Seeds Planting Instructions

Nurturing your Big Max pumpkins to their full size involves a few simple steps:

  • Sun & Space – These pumpkins thrive in lots of sunlight and need ample room to grow.
  • Planting Once the threat of frost has passed, sow in fertile, warm soil. Plant groups of 3 to 6 seeds, about 1 inch deep and spaced 4 to 6 feet apart.
  • Germination Seedlings should emerge within 7 to 14 days.
  • Thinning  When seedlings reach 1 to 2 inches in height, thin them down to the 2 to 3 strongest in each group.
  • Maximizing Size For extra-large pumpkins, allow only 1 fruit per plant to mature.

Heirloom Big Max Pumpkin Seeds Harvesting Instructions

Once your Big Max pumpkins have grown, here are some steps to ensure a successful harvest:

    • Harvest Time Pumpkins are ready to harvest approximately 110 days after planting, once the rinds are hard and deep orange in color.
    • Frost Damage If a light frost kills the vines, harvest the pumpkins as soon as possible.
    • Removing from Vine Use pruning shears to cut pumpkins from the vine, leaving about 3 inches of stem attached.
    • Skin Hardening Allow the pumpkin skin to harden in the sun for about a week.
